A Visual Tour: Farm-to-Fork
POSTED: 09/28/2023
Here at Maple Leaf Farms, we believe transparency is essential in our farming process. We believe it is important to know where your food comes from. Within our Farm-to-Fork process, we are able to show the process from an egg to your table!
The first step in our farming practice includes the parent bird laying eggs on our breeder farms that are then brought to our hatchery and incubated in a safe environment. Once the ducks are hatched, they are transported to our family farms, all of which are located in Northern Indiana. At these farms, the ducks are raised in a cage-free, free-to-roam environment with constant access to fresh food and water. Every flock is checked on by our farmers at LEAST twice a day.
When the ducks are ready to be processed, we follow the standards of the USDA. In an effort to continue to be as sustainable as possible, we use as much of the duck as we can. The feathers go to our sister company, Down inc., where they create pillows and other bedding products with feathers and down from our ducks. The meat of the duck goes into making the delicious products from Duck Bacon to Whole Ducks.
Once processed, our duck meat is packed and sent out to our distribution center. From there it can be delivered to retail stores, food services and even directly to your doorstep if you order online.
For more information on how our ducks are raised, processing facilities and their functions, and how you can get duck delivered straight to your door, look no further than right here! Below you will find videos from tours of our farms and the feed mill to in-depth explanations of biosecurity and our science-based duck care Trident Stewardship Program.
