Duck and Wine Pairings: Mexico, Peru, New Zealand, Oregon
POSTED: 05/07/2023
This month we are highlighting delightful and tasty duck and wine pairings from all over the world! From Oregon to the island country of New Zealand, you are sure to find the perfect pairing for your next dinner party or special occasion.
Mexico
With Cinco De Mayo celebrations happening just days ago, we will first travel to Mexico for our first pairing! The flavor of Mexican cuisine, with its traditional ingredients of corn, beans, chilies, and spices, creates a wonderful connection with different styles of wine. We suggest pairing Duck Birria Tacos with Flybird Margarita Wine.
Peru
Just a few hours south of Mexico is the beautiful country of Peru. That is where we find our next flavor filled pairing! While Peruvian wines are often noted for their distinct sweet flavor, a Pisco Sour Wine-Based Cocktail, made with the popular South American liquor distilled from fermented grapes, is also very popular and a great compliment to Arroz Con Pato.
New Zealand
For this next pairing you have to take a trip halfway around the world from Peru to reach New Zealand. This wonderful pairing of Duck Fat Sweet Potatoes and Sauvignon Blanc is sure to delight your guests. New Zealand is known for its Sauvignon Blanc, which is sweeter than its French counterpart.
Oregon
The last stop on this wine pairing world tour lands us in Oregon, which is home to some delicious wines that pair very well with duck recipes! One of our favorite pairings is Duck Mac & Cheese and Pinot Noir.
