Started in Northern Italy in the 16th to 17th century, this dish is one of the most popular forms of Italian pasta. The climate of Northern Italy was suited for growing potatoes over wheat and therefore, gnocchi became a go-to pasta dish. At this point, most of Italy has its own version of gnocchi, and with this recipe, you can create this classic dish anywhere in the world.
Fifth Stop: France
Legend has it that this delicious French dish was created in a time of starvation for the people of Castelnaudary. Under attack by the British during the Hundred Years’ War, the people of the town threw everything they had left into a stew and gave it to their soldiers. The stew was so hearty and nourishing that the invaders were easily defeated. According to legend, this dish saved the small town of Castelnaudary, and it could save your next dinner party!
