Trident Stewardship Program and Sustainable Farming
POSTED: 05/16/2023
When the topic of farming comes up among consumers, some may naturally conjure up the image of American Gothic. And while this quaint depiction of a Midwestern farm family has stood the test of time in the art world, it is a woefully outdated portrayal of modern agriculture. Farmers still feel a deep connection to their land, but the science and technology used to produce today’s food and fiber products allows them to operate much more sustainably than generations before.
At Maple Leaf Farms, our Trident Stewardship Program is a great example of how our fourth-generation family business is working to ensure the health and well-being of our animals while conserving our natural resources.
Maple Leaf Farms Trident Stewardship Program focuses on three key areas and is supported by three levels of assurance and accountability. The three focus areas include:
To ensure that our team members understand and follow the standards in these areas, the program includes training, an annual certification, and internal and third-party audits.
Our company carries our commitment to responsible food and fiber production beyond the farm to our food plants and other operations. As part of our corporate sustainability program, we track and seek out improvements to reduce, reuse and recycle natural resources. The sustainability systems our company has in place are scientifically verified, ethically grounded, and economically viable so that the impact of these sustainable achievements benefits the communities where our employees work and raise their families.
