Turkey Burgers? Why We Prefer Duck
POSTED: 09/18/2022
While duck is poultry, it is very different from chicken and turkey because it's a red meat. There is no white meat on duck. This means that a well-prepared duck breast eats more like steak than chicken and is slightly pink in the center when properly cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees F. Unlike other red meats, however, duck is very lean and low in saturated fat; therefore, better for you. Its iron and duck fat gives it that extra umami taste.
Duck’s nutritional value shows it is packed with health benefits that make it a great addition to your weekly meal plans. Keep in mind that duck is lower in saturated fat than many other proteins. Duck can have fewer calories than other poultry. Duck is high in iron. White Pekin duck is an excellent source of essential nutrients such as vitamin E, niacin and selenium, with one serving providing more than 20 percent of a person’s daily recommended intake. Duck meat is a much better source of vitamin K, vitamin A, and vitamins B1 and B2. Overall, duck fat is higher in monounsaturated fats that help lower LDL cholesterol than saturated fats, which can have a negative effect on blood cholesterol levels.
Spice it Up
Try a jalapeño- and onion-infused patty for a moist, flavorful summer entrée. Serve with spicy mango salsa on the side or add to the top of your Jalapeno Duck Burgers.
Add in Fresh Herbs
Try the BBQ Duck Burgers on Rosemary Focaccia to add in some fresh herbs. This dish will ensure a fresh new flavor with the addition of herbs such as parsley and rosemary. These herbs add a new flavor to a traditional dish that everyone is sure to love!
Try a Berry Sauce
Duck burgers are great on their own, but the addition of new flavors can help create a new dish that you will want to try over and over again. A good berry sauce can take a regular burger to a delicious and upscale meal that you or the people you are serving will love.
